R-CNN methods of object detection have been evolved over the years. Advances like Fast R-CNN have reduced the training time and test per image. We'll see that the Fast R-CNN is 8.8x times faster in training time than its predecessor, and 146x faster at test-time. Undoubtedly Fast R-CNN brings major advancements in traditional CNN in training and testing time, but a major problem faced by Fast R-CNN is that it uses selective search algorithms to find all of the candidate boxes, which eventually increases run time. However, there is an efficient way to find these candidate boxes. Faster RCNN uses the neural network to find the candidate boxes and this type of neural network is called Regional Proposal Network (RPN), which is the backbone of Faster R-CNN.
